CLEAN COOK STOVES, AFRICA

CookClean manufactures efficient cookstoves to displace the resources wasteful and unhealthy traditional stoves which kill 13,400 people and subject 21 million to Household Air Pollution yearly in Ghana. This method of cooking has a devastating effect on Ghanaian forests which have been reduced to 25% of its original size. Furthermore, CookClean manufactures sustainable biomass cooking fuels made of agricultural waste and sawdust in its own 2nd production facilities to complement the stove production.

CDM Project, Brazil

This Brazilian CDM (CLEAN DEVELOPMENT MECHANISM) project ensures the construction of 2 Small Hydro Power Plants included in the same Project Design Document.

The power plant will then supply electricity to Brazil's National Interconnected System, displacing thermal electricity sources from fossil fuels. It also contributes to environmental sustainability, to meet the growing energy demand on Rio Grande do Sul state, and to decrease external energy dependency. The project activity reduces emissions by avoiding electricity generation through fossil fuel combustion.

Reforestation, India

The project has been undertaken to protect the land which was severely degraded or degrading. Prior to the project activity the lands were wastelands due to severe soil erosion without considerable flora.

Many parcels of degraded land that is owned by small and poor farmers/tribes who do not have the capability of plantation without any external financial support and technical guidance, are reforested under the Farm Forestry Scheme.

Besides increasing the forest cover, the project also provides enhanced sources of livelihood and income in rural areas by generating large employment opportunities. The project also directly contributes to the significant reduction in top soil losses due to wind and water erosion and biodiversity conservation.

The Sichuan Miyaluo Hydroelectric Station is a run-of-river small-scale hydropower project in Sichuan Province, in the People’s Republic of China.

The project utilised the hydrological resources of the Zagunao River in a run-of-river hydro power facility that generates low emissions electricity for the Central China Power Grid. The electricity currently generated by the grid is relatively carbon intensive. The project reduced emissions of greenhouse gases by an estimated 64,782 t CO2e per year during the first crediting period.

The project has significantly diversified the sources of electricity generation, which is important for meeting growing energy demands and the transition away from diesel and coal-supplied electricity generation.

Biomass Malawi

A recent study in Malawi showed that switching from a three-stone fire to a Chitetezo Mbaula improved stove reduces the quantity of particles emitted by 46% and carbon monoxide by 44%. A well-tuned stove can reduce firewood consumption by up to 80%.

Most Malawians do not have access to electricity. The only way they can soften their carbohydrates in order to avoid starvation is by burning wood to boil water. The Chitetezo Mbaula stove is hand-made using local materials, fostering local ingenuity and self-reliance. The stove project provides income to over 2,000 people (mostly women in rural areas) to manufacture and promote smoke-reducing cookstoves.
